According to a recent study at the University of Arizona’s Human-Animal Research Initiative, kissing your best canine friend could be good for your health. That’s great news for those of you who happen to know that YOUR best canine friend gives the very best slobbery smooches! Why, you ask? Because you and your pooch not only have a shot at some amazing photo opps, but the pooch deemed the “Numero Uno with the Very Best Slobbery Smooches” at this year’s Twin Cities Pet Con will not only be the envy of bazillions of other canines and their companions - you’ll both win some super awesome prizes! Be there or be square!

Try not to squeal with delight as our various rescue groups parade around the stage with some of their select pets in need of forever homes! Rescue group representatives will also be available to provide information on adopting a new pet companion. Please remember, adopt don’t shop!

1:00 Pet Musical Chairs Competition
Musical Chairs is a doggy variation of the classic children’s game. Music plays as handlers walk with their dog’s off-leash counter-clockwise around a circle of chairs. When the music stops, the handlers instruct their dogs to sit by verbal request and hand signal only (i.e., without touching them) and rush to sit on a vacant chair in the circle. Last dog (and person) sitting wins!

3:00 Alpacas as Pets by Alpacas of Troy 
Alpacas may just be the cutest of all the Camelidae family, which includes llamas, guanacos and vicunas from South America, and Bactrian and Dromedary camels from Asia and Africa. With their floppy furry tufts, slender necks, ingénue eyes and coy Clara Bow grins, they are the "it" girls and boys of the ungulate world.But beyond their charming, quirky good looks, these creatures are responsible for bearing some of the silkiest, most versatile fiber found in nature, for which they are shorn annually. Jeff Suchland, the founder and proprietor of Alpacas of Troy will share his experience in having alpacas as pets along with some little-known facts about these cuddly wuddlies.

3:30 Animals Got Talent!™Pet Talent Contest
Does your pet have an amazing talent? Of course, they do! Then it’s a good thing that bragging rights are up for grabs because this is your pet’s chance to show off and awe us all with their mad skills! Animals Got Talent!™ Pet Talent Contest consists of three categories “best trick overall”, “most creative trick”, and “silliest trick”. Audience applause will determine the winner of a fabulous prizes.

4:15 The Biggest, Baddest, Bestest Pet Costume Contest Evah!
Pet supermodels sashaying their costumed selves on the Pet Expo’s (err, very makeshift) catwalk? Um, yes please, and we’ll take a second serving too, thankyouverymuch! Show off your pet dressed in their costumed best for the super popular Pet Costume Contest! Any pet is welcome to participate, whether they’re canine, feline, porcupine, or just simply divine. There’s just one itsy bitsy teeny tiny caveat to be eligible to win, your pet must wear a costume. Audience applause will determine first, second, and third-place winners. You can be confident that we’ve had extensive totally-scientific training in judging these types of things and can quickly identify audience enthusiasm down to a single clap too. To enter, bring your pet to the Contest Stage by 4:05 PM and be ready to work, sashay, shante!

Oh. My. Gawd. Becky, look at that mutt. Her smile’s so... big. We can’t believe it’s so round. We mean, it’s so out there... Oh, sorry, you caught us singing along to one of our favorite tunes by Sir Barks-A-Lot. Anyway, does your pet have a smile that lights up a room? Is he/she just the happiest pooch who’s ever wagged their way onto a dance floor? Yes? Then this is the contest for you and your best pet friend! The Happiest Pet, Biggest Smile Contest consists of two categories “happiest pet” and “biggest smile”. Audience applause will determines who wins a fabulous prize!

Don’t miss the high-flying, amazing performances from The Fur-tastic K9’s. Check out the team of 6 skilled, trained, professional dogs as they perform stunts and tricks and show off their obedience and ability. Born and raised in New York, Felicia Foy has been training dogs for several years. With a love for dogs and trick training, k9 performance was a natural fit for Felicia. The Fur-tastic K9’s have performed with Canine Stars & Houston Disc Dogs, at various national pet events and their videos have been featured on Good Morning America! See their performances on Saturday and Sunday and join them for a training workshop each day.

11 AM: MEET THE MUSTANGS & LIBERTY DEMONSTRATION – Join Rescuing Freedom Ranch at the Equestrian Ring to get up close and personal with the American Mustang. Learn all about America’s wild horses and watch as we showcase the amazing versatility, bond, and trust built with these amazing animals.
12:30 PM: HOW HORSES THINK – Have you ever wondered what goes on inside of a horse’s head? We will take time to break down how horses think and the reasons horses behave the way they do. We will also discuss how their senses work, etiquette around horses, and reading horse body language.
2:00 PM: BUILDING A HORSE’S CONFIDENCE - Join us as we work through step by step of how to introduce an unconfident, nervous horse to new things. We will discuss things that can be scary to horses, how to help a horse think instead of react, and how to safely introduce new things.
3:30 PM: STARTING A HORSE UNDERSADDLE – Come discover what it is like starting a horse undersaddle (able to be ridden) as we go step by step through the process. We will use on of our horses that has never been ridden and discuss introducing tack, tightening the cinch, and how to set the horse up for success.

1 PM: WORKING WITH A YOUNG HORSE – Discover what it’s like to work with a young horse! Come learn the simple exercises to help build rapport and trust with a young horse. We will go over the basics of educating a horse from the ground up to be respectful, successful, and confident.
2:00 PM: Connecting in the Round Pen – Have you ever wondered how people can communicate with a horse without touching it? We will discuss how to move a horse forward, backwards, change their direction, and speed simply through body language. We will also discuss establishing a connection and leadership.
